Treatment:
Melasma

What is Melasma?
Melasma is a common type of skin pigmentation, often appearing as patchy, darkened areas on the face. Its most frequently seen in women, and can be triggered by hormonal changes – such as pregnancy, or birth control or by heat exposure, like sun or laser. If you had chloasma (often known as the mask of pregnancy) you will be at risk of developing malasma.
Sometimes melasma fades on its own, for example after pregnancy. However if it doesn’t there is a variety of treatment options available t help reduce its appearance and restore a more even skin tone.
At Bloom, we specialise in helping clients manage melasma. We provide a range of professional treatments as well as carefully selected homecare products designed to improve skin tone and support long-term results.

Q-switch, clearlift LASER
Many people are told that lasers aren’t suitable for melasma because heat can trigger pigmentation and make it worse. That’s true for certain lasers – but not for the one we use.
At our clinic we use the Alma Harmony XL Pro, a hybrid system featuring the clearlift Q-switch laser.Unlike heat-based laswers, the Q-switch works with energy (not heat), making it a safe and effective option for melasma. It also as specific protocols designed for both epidermal and dermal melasma, ensuring a treatment tailored to your needs.
With this advanced technology, we can:
- Provide reliable and safe treatment of melasma
- Treat all skin types

What to expect during the treatment
Most patients feel a rubber band snapping sensation against the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the hand-piece by our therapist. The Alma Harmony XL Pro laser machine has a cooling tip which the therapist will use to protect and soothe the treated areas so you feel no discomfort and have an improved treatment experience.
Post-treatment
This treatment may leave you a little flushed afterwards, but this will fade within a few hours and makeup can be applied directly after treatment. We will apply sunscreen at the end of the treatment to protect your skin afterwards. How many treatments will you need will depend on the nature of the melasma, and we recommend spacing treatments four weeks apart.
